Chicago Citation Guide

Author-Date

Author-Date is one of the two formats for the Chicago citation style. Author-Date has two main components:

  1. References listed in a references list or bibliography. These references will all have the date component second.
  2. In-text citations within the paper, referring back to the references list/bibliography.

Formatting

Format your references list as follows:

  • Arrange citations alphabetically by author.
  • Double space all citations.
  • Format all citations with a hanging indent.
