Books

Books provide an in-depth look at a topic, but on a broader scale. They are a great place to start your research for background information and to understand the basics of a topic. However, due to publishing schedules, they may not have the latest information. You will use the library catalog to look up books about specific topics, or you may browse certain areas to find relevant titles.

Searching for Books

Use the library catalog to search for relevant books. Type your search terms and look through the search results. If you have more than one term, connect them using AND.

keyword = protest songs

Once you find something relevant, look at the record for that book and examine the Subjects. These are subject headings and will let you search more precisely.

Specific subjects listed

Once you have identified subject headings, you can either click on them from within the record, or do a new search, this time selecting Subject.

Subject = Protest songs -- 20th century -- History and criticism.

If you would like to find a book, find the call number and the Locate button. This will show you the floor the book is located on, and will allow you to locate it within the floor.
