An academic library is an essential part of college, offering a wide range of materials to support students in their studies. It has books, journals, videos, and other resources that students and faculty can use for learning. The library provides space for studying, researching, and working together on projects. Importantly, everything in the library is free for students.
The Lawrence W. Tyree Library is an open stacks library. That means that you can go into the 'book stacks' (the area where books are) by yourself at any time to explore and then borrow any item that you would like. Other academic libraries may be closed stacks where you must request items be retrieved for you or make an appointment to explore the collections. Most of the books in the Tyree Library are on the third floor in the Circulating Collection.
The Tyree Library is the academic library for Santa Fe College, in Building Y on the Northwest Campus. The Tyree Library provides free resources you can borrow for a specific amount of time, along with free study space, computers, and research help from librarians. Everything the library provides is free—the only things you need to pay for are food/drinks from Coffee 101 and printing.
The Learning Commons is a separate department providing free tutoring and academic success coaching inside the library building (Building Y) on the first and second floors. They have different hours for their services than the library.
The bookstore is located in Building S and is where you buy or rent textbooks and course materials. They are a business and their goal is to make money.
