Youth Collection

The Youth Collection is housed on the second floor of the Library and includes fiction and non-fiction books for children, middle grades, and young adults. The fiction collection is cataloged and shelved separately by reading levels: Picture Books, Chapter Books, and Young Adult. This page explains each sub-collection and how to search by reading level in the library catalog.

Picture Books

picture book spine labelPicture books are books, especially for young children, wherein the story is conveyed through pictures and very few words. Good for new readers of all ages. Shelved separately in the Youth Collection on the second floor. Look for the Picture Book sticker on the side of the book.

To search for Picture books, use the following search box and input a search term (a title, author, or topic). You may also browse all books that have been tagged Preschool Reading Level or Elementary Reading Level.

Chapter Books

chapter book spine labelChapter books are short to medium length with some illustrations. Stories are told sequentially in chapters. Good for middle grade and intermediate readers. Shelved separately in the Youth Collection on the second floor. Look for the Chapter Book sticker on the side of the book.

To search for Chapter books, use the following search box and input a search term (a title, author, or topic). You may also browse all books that have been tagged Elementary Reading Level or Middle School Reading Level.

Young Adult

young adult spine labelWith mature themes and characters, Young Adult books are good for middle, high school, and college students as well as intermediate to advanced new readers. Shelved separately in the Youth Collection on the second floor; look for the Young Adult sticker on the side of the book.

To search for Young Adult books, use the following search box and input a search term (a title, author, or topic). You may also browse all books that have been tagged Middle School Reading Level or High School Reading Level.
