Research and Reference Help

Librarians are available for remote assistance while the campus is closed Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

If you have a question about library services or about any aspect of research, please use the following methods.

Library Materials

Items Checked Out from Our Library

Due dates have been extended to May 15 and will be extended further if the college closure continues. Please keep materials until the campus reopens. Do not return to bookdrops.

Interlibrary Loan Items

Items checked out from other libraries via UBorrow or interlibrary loan will have due dates extended. Please do not return to bookdrops.

You may still request articles via the Interlibrary Loan Request form. Articles will be delivered via email. 

Course Reserves

Please check with your professor about textbooks that had been on course reserve at the Library. Some may still be available for your use.

VitalSource is temporarily offering free access to many e-textbooks through May 25 through the VitalSource Helps program. Check their list of participating publishers. To start, create a free VitalSource account. Then, search for your book. You may borrow up to seven titles.

RedShelf is also offering free access to e-textbooks through May 25. Search for your book and borrow up to seven titles.

Online Materials

Online resources continue to be available, including eBooks, streaming videos, and library databases. To log in, your Borrower ID is your SF ID number and your PIN is the last 4 digits of your SF ID number. Please email reference@sfcollege.edu if you are unable to log in.

  • To find books, use the library catalog. Click the eBooks tab to only view online books.
  • To find articles, use the library databases. Ask a librarian if you need help.
  • You may also wish to view our subject guides for recommended research strategies and resources in different areas or our citation guides for information on citing in a variety of styles.

Free Online Books & Textbooks

Many of these resources are being offered by publishers and vendors for a limited period of time to help students and faculty as classes transition online and physical facilities are closed.

Faculty Services

Faculty may request library instruction by contacting their library liaison. Options for instruction include custom online library lessons, customized guides, and synchronous Zoom sessions.

Your library liaison can also discuss library resources to supplement course instruction online, including eBooks and streaming videos.

Personal Resources

These links provide a wide variety of local and national help resources if you are struggling financially, emotionally, or otherwise.
