Building Operations

In an effort to keep our community safe, we have physically distanced spaces in the building and altered services to provide continued support to students, staff, and faculty. This page details the changes we have made.

See also Library COVID-19 Services Information.

If you have any questions, please call the Reference Desk at 352-395-5409 or email

Building Expectations

You must wear a face mask covering your nose and mouth while in the building. Face shields alone are not sufficient.

Please maintain physical distancing from all other users and library staff.

Please take all food outside to eat. Drinks may be consumed but masks should not remain off for lengthy periods of time.

Wipe computers, table, and chair down after use.

Building Information

The library building is operating at limited capacity, and entry may be controlled if capacity is reached.

The third floor is closed. Books will be retrieved by staff members; place a hold in the library catalog to request a book. Limited browsing is available; please contact a librarian for details.

Some computers and furniture have been removed to maintain physical distancing.

To maintain physical distancing, elevators should be used by one person at a time.

Stairwells are one way to promote physical distancing. Go up to the second floor via the east emergency stairwell (past Y-109). Descend to the first floor via the public stairwell by Coffee 101.

Library Materials

All materials may be requested via the Place a Hold link in the library catalog and picked up via Curbside Service or at the Circulation Desk. Limited access to circulating collections are available; please contact a librarian for more details.

Please return all items to outside or inside bookdrops. Do not hand to library staff.

All returned items, including Reserve Collection materials, will be quarantined for 72 hours before being made available for the next patron.

Magazines and newspapers are available upon request at the Circulation Desk and are quarantined for 72 hours after each use.

Laptops are currently unavailable. Smaller peripheral items such as headphones and calculators are available for in-house use. These are cleaned via UV sanitation after each use.

Study Rooms

Small study rooms are single occupancy only. Some have been repurposed for physical distancing purposes.

Reserve Collection

Reserve Collection items will be subject to a 72-hour quarantine after each use. Faculty may wish to place extra copies on reserve. To request an eReserve scan of the first week's chapters, please contact your library liaison.

To place a physical item on Reserve please complete the following steps:

  1. Fill out our Reserve Request form.
  2. Attach the form to the item.
  3. Place the item in one of our library bookdrops.
  4. Call us at 352-395-5412 to let us know you have delivered the item.

Library Instruction

All library instruction is virtual. Options include a live webinar, a customized library module, and an embedded librarian in Canvas. Faculty may request a session with the Library Instruction Request form.
